CHR to probe into child abuse on popular TV program

/ 09:42 PM March 29, 2011

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Human Rights has joined the condemnation of the controversial “Willing Willie” episode where a six-year-old boy was made to perform a lewd dance, saying it was studying the possibility of filing legal charges against those responsible for the “child abuse.”

In a statement Tuesday, CHR said, “This is an exploitation of the child’s innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment’s sake.”

The CHR said the boy’s family, crowd and the television show, which aired on TV5, were complicit in the “abuse” of the child identified as Jan-Jan Suan.

“The CHR will investigate this incident in order to identify the person/s liable and to recommend proper legal actions against them,” the statement added.
