Kris Aquino successfully takes first dose of new treatment

Kris Aquino has successfully received the first dose of her new treatment as she gave fans updates on her health and plans to seek further medical advice abroad.
The actress received a full dose of a medication called Xolair injection, as seen on her Instagram page yesterday, March 1. Aquino, who has the autoimmune disease chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), also noted that she now weighs 38.5 kilograms (85 pounds).
“[First] Xolair injection was a success, meaning kinaya ko (I was able to handle) the full dose,” Aquino said while thanking her doctors. She also showed herself at a hospital room with medical staff, friends and her sons, Josh and Bimby.
Xolair is a type of Omalizumab medication, an injectable prescription drug used to treat CSU, nasal polyps and moderate to severe persistent asthma in children. It can cause side effects such as nausea, headaches, swelling, cough, joint pain and upper respiratory tract infection among patients battling CSU, as per the medication’s official site.
Aquino thanked the public for their prayers and described how she will be addressing her various health concerns in the coming weeks.
“Supposed to rest this week, then March 13 ang (is the [date for the]) next shot— then after [five] days, praying nothing goes wrong, we finally go abroad [and] I continue my next doses of Xolair and finally tackle my autoimmune and other important health problems,” she told fans.
“Thank you for being part of my road to wellness and hopefully better quality of life journey [with] me,” she added.

Aquino received kind words from fellow celebrities who wish for her recovery, including Angel Locsin, Maja Salvador, Angeline Quinto and Melai Cantiveros.
Aquino went offline last Thursday, Feb. 24, to rest for her new treatment. According to her, the process takes about four hours, and includes observation and rest days. The actress also recently went through a test to ensure that she is a viable candidate for treatment abroad. /ra
