Kelvin Miranda couldn’t help but get emotional at his contract signing with Sparkle GMA Artist Center. Walking the red carpet with network executives, he said, brought back memories of his struggles as a young show biz hopeful.

“I remembered the time when I was just starting. I was determined. And being here now reminds me of how important it is to keep going. I was able to reach this because of hard work. I have to keep getting better at fulfilling more goals,” he said in a virtual conference.

The 23-year-old actor wasn’t an overnight success. He first tried his luck in 2016 and spent the next three years playing bit or supporting roles—sometimes uncredited ones. His big break eventually came in 2019, when he landed a main role in Mikhail Red’s Netflix thriller, “Dead Kids.”

Thankful

Since then, his career has been on the upswing, topbilling the television series “The Lost Recipe” and “Stories from Heart: Loving Miss Bridgette.” He was also given opportunities to pursue his love for music.

He had to wait and overcome obstacles to where he is right now, but the journey was worth it, he said. “I have no regrets with how things turned out because I’m now reaching my dreams little by little … There were struggles, rejections, indecent proposals—I have experienced those things. But I believed in myself and chose to stay on the right path,” he said.

“I’m thankful I didn’t try to rush things, that I waited for the right time to achieve what I want in the right way,” he added. The year 2021 was like a “roller-coaster ride.” Because of the pandemic, many of his planned projects had to be canceled. But looking back, Kelvin remains grateful that blessings continued to pour in, despite the tough and uncertain times.

“Things were going well prior to the pandemic. But, like most people, I lost many opportunities. Everyone was affected. I must admit that I struggled. We lost deals we had already closed. It was unexpected,” he related. “But what I also didn’t expect was that I would still get offers, blessings that boosted my career and confidence.”

“That’s why I’m thankful to my network and my managers who gave me opportunities, and encouraged me to continue what I had already started … I’m thankful for everything I have received,” added Kelvin, who’s the breadwinner of his family.

Improving physique

This year, one of Kelvin’s goals is to improve his physique. Who knows, he said, I might get offers to do action films or series. “I’m focusing on how I can better present myself to people. I’m thinking about what else I can offer them,” he said. “I’m also working on my body. I’m not getting any younger, and I want to be ready for whatever roles that come my way,” he added. “I would love to do an action project, because I have been dreaming of that since I was a child.”

Kelvin is no stranger to playing gay roles; he experienced doing them in an episode of the television shows “Magpakailanman” and “Imbestigador.” And if ever he were tasked to do another, he said he will be willing to accept it.

“I want to explore and learn from things I haven’t experienced yet. As an actor, you’re a human canvass—you can be anything or anyone. My job is to tell stories and share what my characters are experiencing. I’m open to different kinds of roles,” he said.

Kelvin has so far been paired with the likes of Mikee Quintos and Beauty Gonzalez. And though he knows that being in a love team has its advantages, he also hopes to work with more actors. “I have a lot of dream actors I want to work with, like Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz. I have been looking up to them before I entered the biz,” he said.
