A sonnet for Tom-Carla engagement

The GMA primetime series “Love of My Life” may have aired its final episode last Friday—but not its lead stars’ love story. In fact, Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana are only too happy to take their romance to the next level.
In the midst of the COVID-related stories of doom and gloom last Sunday came a refreshing piece of happy news: Tom popped the question to his 34-year-old girlfriend Carla—and she said yes!
Both Tom and Carla announced the engagement to their followers on Instagram last Sunday. Accompanied by a photo of Tom’s hand holding hers showing a gorgeous ring, Carla’s post simply said, “A million times, YES!”
Along with the same photo, the 33-year-old Tom quoted one of Pablo Neruda’s best-loved sonnets: “I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this.” Will we hear church bells ringing before the year ends? Abangan. —RITO P.
