Myrtle expanding her skill set for new opportunities

With opportunities in show biz still limited, now is a good time, Myrtle Sarrosa said, to hone her talents and learn new things that could prove useful in the future.
“I try to be positive most of the time, but I can also be an introvert and tend to overthink. But the people around me, my managers always assure me that I’m always blessed, regardless if there are projects or not,” Myrtle said in a virtual conference for her contract renewal as the endorser of Megasoft’s feminine hygiene product, Sisters.
“As long as I continue to improve my skills, I know I will always be prepared once the opportunities come,” she added.
Myrtle, who’s primarily known for her work as an actress and cosplayer, also dabbles in music and video gaming. She’s also taking up online workshops for digital content creation, and getting the hang of hosting through the GMA Artist Center online lifestyle show, “Cool Hub.”
“I like that I can get involved in the different production aspects of the show,” she said of being part of “Cool,” which features celebrity collections. “I enjoy that. And I realized that I have a lot of equipment at home that I can use, and I can do things I don’t usually get done when I’m busy on the set.”
“Despite the situation, I’m so grateful because they’re giving me work that allows me to grow as an artist. And even if I’m still new in GMA 7, I feel like I’m being given chances to make a name for myself there,” added Myrtle, who transferred from ABS-CBN last February.
As for acting projects, Myrtle related that she has already auditioned for different programs set for next year. “I hope the auditions become fruitful,” she said. “You have to be a jack of all trades so you get to maximize yourself. You can’t just do one thing.”
Meanwhile, Myrtle said she’s happy that her displaced friends and former colleagues at the Kapamilya network are getting projects in GMA 7 and other companies.
“It’s hard to put food on your table and see your savings go down, to think and worry about what will happen next. I’m happy for their choices and I want them to be happy … I was in a similar position before,” she said.
The 25-year-old celebrity tried to enjoy the first three months of lockdown, watching anime, playing online games and joining tournaments. But before long, the feeling of uncertainty started to weigh her down. “I started thinking about the future,” she said. “This year has been full of the unexpected.”
Luckily, Myrtle has a good support system that helps keep her mental health in check.
“You’re used to being with your friends and then suddenly, you’re cooped up at home. But the good thing is that I still have social connection, through the online and gaming community. I didn’t experience anxiety because there are people I can reach out to, or talk to when I need it,” she related.
The most important thing she has realized this pandemic, Myrtle said, is that her loved one’s health and safety come first before everything else. “Value yourself and what you have. Be grateful for your good health and the people who care for you,” she said.
