Maine Mendoza starts ‘DoNation’ drive for workers affected by community quarantine

The true spirit of “bayanihan” is reinforced by various celebrities through their efforts to help people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest addition to this growing list is actress Maine Mendoza, who is spearheading a “DoNation” drive for employees affected by the quarantine.
Mendoza pledged to send P1,000 per household to all her beneficiaries for their food and other essential items. The comedienne wants to reach out to “employees who are not allowed to work because of the community lockdown,” as stated on her Twitter account yesterday, March 19.

In her blog, the “Eat Bulaga” host noted how the crisis affects all people “regardless of their status in [society].” She then expressed her concern for those who “live on a day-to-day basis.”
“I will be launching my DoNation Drive to help in my own little way, those who are greatly affected by this catastrophe,” she said. “I know how hard it is for these people nowadays to sustain their living, so I decided to share as much as I can to them.”
Mendoza also extended her sympathy to the frontliners who are working hard during this time.
“We are all required to stay at home,” she said. “[But] some people, especially our frontliners, whether be it in the government, food and medical industry have been trying their best to fulfill their duty as our modern heroes on these difficult times.”

To organize the selection process, the actress also asked for a proof of employment in the form of company ID or “any other proof that you are currently employed but required not to work until our situation improves.” They must also be willing to give out their contact details for the money transfer.
Mendoza assured that she will try to accommodate as many people as she can. She will also provide a “proof of transaction” to the donors for transparency.
Similarly, actress Bela Padilla recently handed out donations to various cities after procuring over P3 million through her fundraising effort. Meanwhile, celebrity couple Richard Gutierrez and Sarah Lahbati also opened a GoGetFunding page to help frontliners replenish their stocks of food and other medical necessities. /ra
