Aiko Melendez, Patrick Meneses continue to trade barbs

/ 06:15 PM April 15, 2012

The lawyer of Aiko Melendez’s ex, Patrick Meneses, sent me a letter in reaction to my column about Patrick’s libel case against Aiko being dismissed. My column was based on what Aiko told me, but Pat’s lawyer said the case—which originally stemmed from Aiko’s alleged direct messages on Twitter questioning Pat’s sexual preference—is not over yet.

Patrick’s text message to me read: “I did not drop the libel case against Aiko and neither was it dismissed at press time. I filed the case in Bulacan, but Aiko had the venue changed to the Department of Justice (DoJ) in Manila. Apparently, the Bulacan prosecutor penned a joint resolution dismissing the case against Aiko, Ogie (Diaz) and Cez (Gella) but this joint resolution was never issued by him to the parties concerned, and was only forwarded to the DoJ with the records of the case.

“When the DoJ acquired jurisdiction over it, the assigned prosecutor decided to conduct a preliminary investigation. In the hearing on March 14, the prosecutor categorically stated that the joint resolution was not binding on the DoJ. So the libel case at the DoJ is still pending resolution, since neither my lawyers nor I have received any resolution from the DoJ.”

Patrick added that he has moved on and is willing to forgive Aiko if she asks for it. When I asked him about his love life, he replied, “Steady lang ako despite everything that’s happening.”

Aiko, however, said that “Walang panalo o talo sa usapang ito. As far as I’m concerned, the case was dismissed in Bulacan. I have a copy of the resolution. I don’t know why Pat wants to drag it on. He should focus on his constituents in Bulacan. And we can go about our separate lives peacefully.”

Amalia’s soft heart

I feel bad that I was not with my second mom, Tita Nena (Amalia Fuentes), during the wake of her husband, Joey Stevens, as I was out of town. I’m glad that her anger toward Tito Joey has subsided.

I’ve always known that behind her tough exterior lies a soft heart. I was touched by her text to me when I got back from the holiday break: “Anak, I miss you especially at times like this in my life. Parang rudderless with no family. Love you most.”

With his dying breath, Tito Joey had called out Tita Nena’s name. Such undying love!

Last April 12, the Muhlachs had a grand family reunion in CamSur headed by Aga Muhlach. I have no doubt that they also celebrated the memory of their beloved Joey Stevens and I’m sure, too, that he was with them in spirit.
