Why Penn Badgley is alarmed at hitting 1M IG followers

Reaching 1 million followers on Instagram is a milestone usually celebrated, and actor Penn Badgley did so in a rather unique way: by mocking his own fans.

Badgley, the star of the psychological thriller series “You,” thanked his 1 million followers in a video taken from a hotel in Manila.

The 32-year-old actor began with an emotional reaction, like he is pretending to cry. “I wake up to find — I never thought I’d see the day — but I wake up to find I have a million followers.”

His message then took another turn. “I don’t know what to say… because all it took was for me to start murdering people! Yo, get the eff outta here!”

Badgley has made no secret of his hostile sentiments toward his character Joe Goldberg, a murderous stalker.

While fans have swooned over his character, Badgley has futilely attempted to convince fans to see past the romance—and his good looks.

Last Jan. 9, one Nobia Parker (@nobia_parker) wondered on Twitter, “Said this already but @PennBadgley is breaking my heart once again as Joe. What is it about him?”

“I’m telling you it’s your face that does it. You’re gorgeous. I can see past that crazy sh*t lol,” said Rosie (@rose_barbie_) on the same day.

In frustration, Badgley wrote back, “But you’re supposed to see past my face TO the crazy sh*t! It’s the other way!”
