‘The Ghost Bride’ set to air on CinemaOne on May 6

Everyone is set for a hair-raising movie night as Kim Chiu’s supernatural horror flick “The Ghost Bride” is set to premiere on Cinema One at 8 p.m. this Sunday, May 6.

The Kapamilya actress stars as Mayen, a young woman dealing with unfortunate events, who has to choose between leading a normal, difficult life, or accepting a strange business proposal for a ghost wedding, an age-old Chinese tradition, in exchange of wealth and a comfortable life for her family. This would then mark the beginning of the bizarre and horrific events in her life.

A ghost marriage is a union of two people in which one or both partners are deceased. Such practice is done by the Chinese to make sure that the two souls would not be lonely in the afterlife.

The film also casts Matteo Guidicelli, Ina Raymundo, Christian Bables, Robert Seña, Beverly Salviejo, Mon Confiado, and Alice Dixon.

The movie is Chiu’s first solo starring role. In past interviews, she expressed her fear of top-billing an entire movie all by herself.

Before its release, the movie has been graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB), and rated PG (parental guidance) by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

Chiu also revealed that a family member was actually a ghost bride. A cousin of her grandmother succumbed to the tradition in exchange for a brighter future. The sacrifices of her relative, however, truly paid that until now, her successors are living a good life.

Chiu, however, added that hypothetically, if she weren’t in showbiz and her family is struggling financially, she would consider a ghost wedding should she be offered.
