‘Fragile’ Avicii wasn’t ‘built for show biz life,’ according to family
As the music world continues to mourn the death and celebrate the music of Avicii, the family of the late Swedish EDM artist issued a statement that seemingly implied that their loved one may have taken his own life.
The family described Avicii, whose real name is Tim Bergling, as “a fragile artistic soul” and “an overachieving perfectionist” who wasn’t quite built for life in show biz.
“He really struggled with thoughts about the meaning of life, of happiness. He couldn’t go on any longer. He wanted to find peace,” the family said, adding that Avicii quit touring in 2016 to find a balance in his life and be happy.
The 28-year-old DJ-producer, who’s behind the smash hit “Wake Me Up,” had a history of health problems—he suffered from pancreatitis and also had his appendix and gallbladder removed. On social media, tributes continue to pour from industry colleagues like Madonna, Charlie Puth and Calvin Harris.—ALLAN POLICARPIO
