‘Tireless’ KZ returns to ‘Singer’ today
KZ Tandingan, who was eliminated from “Singer 2018” last month, recently announced that she’d be returning to the Chinese singing competition for its Breakout Round episode, for a chance to reclaim a spot in the tilt.
Her contest piece? The Mandarin version of Freddie Aguilar’s song “Anak,” which she “practiced tirelessly.”
“I started by transcribing the lyrics in Pinyin (the official system for romanizing Chinese characters) using Google Translate to make it readable and understandable,” KZ told the Inquirer.
“I also met up with my Mandarin teacher to practice the pronunciation and phrasing of the words … I memorized everything in four days,” she related.
The episode had already been taped at the “Singer 2018” studio in Changsha, in the Chinese province of Hunan. It will air today.
Article continues after this advertisementKZ had expressed at a press con last month that she dreamed of performing “Anak” in “Singer 2018.”
“I was told that its Mandarin and Cantonese versions were popular in China,” she said. “And it’d be great to perform an OPM classic.”
