It’s Sharon vs Joanna at the 2nd Eddys

Sharon Cuneta (“Unexpectedly Yours”) goes mano-a-mano against Joanna Ampil (“Ang Larawan”) in the second edition of the Eddys, organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd).

Joining the Megastar and the international theater luminary in the best actress derby are Alessandra de Rossi (“Kita Kita”), Bela Padilla (“100 Tula Para Kay Stella”) and Mary Joy Apostol (“Birdshot”).

But the race in the other categories is just as eagerly anticipated: For best actor, Aga Muhlach is pitted against costar Ronaldo Valdez (“Seven Sundays”), Abra (“Respeto”), Edgar Allan Guzman (“Deadma Walking”) and Joshua Garcia (“Love You to the Stars and Back”).

For best supporting actor, the nominees include Enrique Gil (“Seven Sundays”), Sid Lucero (“Smaller and Smaller Circles”), Dido dela Paz (“Respeto”), Arnold Reyes (“Birdshot”) and Dominic Roco (“I’m Drunk, I Love You”).

Nominees in the best supporting actress category are Angeli Bayani (“Maestra”), Alice Dixson (“The Ghost Bride”), Chai Fonacier (“Respeto”), Therese Malvar (“Ilawod”) and Jasmine Curtis-Smith (“Siargao”).

For best picture, “Birdshot” will slug it out with “Deadma Walking,” “Respeto,” “Smaller and Smaller Circles” and “Unexpectedly Yours.”

Headed by its president Jojo Panaligan, SPEEd aims to encourage film practitioners to create films that mirror the realities of Philippine society. It will fete its winners later this year. —RITO ASILO
