Eddie Garcia turns a year ‘younger’

Dolphy and Eddie Garcia are products of Sampaguita Pictures – and while both are already in their ’80s, they continue to be active in show business. Recently, Eddie Garcia turned a year “younger” on the set of “Babaeng Hampaslupa.”
Susan Roces, a former movie queen and Sampaguita Pictures alumna, brought a huge cake that said, “Happy birthday, Edward Wong. From Helena Sy.” These are the characters they’re portraying on the TV5 drama serial.
Garcia considers the soap another landmark in his enviable career, because he never imagined he’d be acting again with Susan, who’s playing a character who’s a complete departure from the wholesome image she projects onscreen.

During break time, they reminisced about the golden memories they shared in their heyday, and were thankful for the blessings bestowed on them. The veteran actors stressed the importance of discipline, which they learned from their discoverer, the late Dr. Jose Perez.
Eddie has played many villains in the past, but he says the meanness of his character in the drama series is particularly notable: “Wala na sigurong mas sasama pa kay Edward, who’s willing to get rid of his own brother,” he exclaims.
The former military man started appearing in movies in l949. He has never been choosy about the roles assigned to him – which explains why producers love hiring him!
