The Franco-American actor, Oscar-nominated for his breakout performance in “Call Me by Your Name”, heads up the casting for Netflix’s historical film about English king Henry V, with Robert Pattinson previously attached.

Ruling England between 1413 until 1422, King Henry V oversaw several historic achievements over the course of his nine-year reign.

He asserted a national identity and linguistic independence by replacing French and Latin with English as the legal standard. He won a crucial victory at the Battle of Agincourt in the Hundred Years War between England and France. And, as a consequence of his proficiency as a military commander, he came desperately close to taking the French throne in line with his ancestors’ ambitions.

Netflix drama “The King” will see Timothée Chalamet become Henry V, at first hesitant but soon proven to be well-adapted to the task, as he assumes the throne following his father’s death at the hands of a serious recurring illness.

The role is Chalamet’s first since wrapping up “Call Me by Your Name”, which has brought the actor widespread critical acclaim, including nominations for lead actor awards at the Golden Globes and March 4th’s Oscars.

Production is to begin in June, with director David Michôd of “War Machine” and “Animal Kingdom” having co-written with Joel Edgerton.

Edgerton may be better known as an actor, with “Black Mass”, “Exodus: Gods and Kings”, “The Great Gatsby” and “Star Wars” episodes II and III on his resumé, but he has also had a hand in writing or co-writing a number of features including “Jane Got a Gun”, “The Square”, “The Gift” and “The Rover”, the latter of which was a Michôd film.

Robert Pattinson of the “Twilight” saga, “Cosmopolis” and “Good Time” co-starred in “The Rover” and has also been associated with “The King” in an acting capacity. JB
