Actress Maja Salvador, who has had several failed relationships with fellow actors in the past, says she now prefers to date someone who is not from show business.

While she refuses to reveal the identity of the lucky guy she is currently dating, Maja admits that they have been friends for 15 years now and “know each other really well … We were high school classmates. What we feel for each other now was formed from years of friendship,” Maja declares.

She adds that what’s great about the guy not being part of the biz is that “we belong to different worlds, but we get to share experiences with each other when we’re together.”

“I like it this way—things are calm and low-key,” Maja insists. “And yes, we do make time for each other. If you care for that person, you will do whatever it takes to be with him no matter how hectic your schedule is.”

Maja, however, says it’s too early to be thinking of bringing the relationship to a higher level. “I leave it up to God. His timing is always perfect. I’m still young to be thinking of having my own family, anyway,” she explains. “I believe that God will lead you to the right guy, no matter how many times you’ve gotten hurt in the past. You just have to wait.”

According to Maja, her top-rated action-drama series “Wildflower” on ABS-CBN will end in February. This, she adds, will give her enough time to prepare for a series of concerts, titled “Maja On Stage,” that will begin on Feb. 4 at
EIC Convention Center in Cebu City. She will then head to the Big Box East Jurong in Singapore on Feb. 18, then conclude the series with a show at
the Kia Theatre in Cubao on March 23.

“As much as I love her and her songs, there will be no belting like Ms Regine (Velasquez). I don’t want to be bashed online for doing it. I will not force myself if I know I can’t do it—that will only end in disaster. Let’s just leave that to the divas like her,” Maja says.

She adds that she will be working closely with a voice coach. For sure, there will be dancing—her forte—with guest performers Joseph Marco, Vin Abrenica, RK Bagatsing, Kakai and Pooh.

“Working on ’Wildflower’ has put so much strain on my voice because I scream there often,” she shares with the Inquirer, adding that she recently had a talk with a throat doctor, who advised her to rest as much as possible. “That will be quite difficult to do these days because Lily Cruz is about to go on her final battle with the Ardientes,” Maja says of the character that she has been portraying for almost a year now.

She also says Lily is so different from her own personality, and that she does not let the latter influence how she behaves when not at work. “I detox, or else, it will drive me crazy,” she confesses.
“While I choose to just laugh the blues away, Lily is bitter and is easily angered—although I understand that this hatred is a result of all the pain she went through while growing up. If there’s a real Lily Cruz out there, I salute her.”
