Angela Lansbury opens up about gay ex-hubby

Former “Murder, She Wrote” actress Angela Lansbury talked candidly about her gay ex-spouse, the late actor Richard Cromwell.

“I had no idea that I was marrying a gay man,” Lansbury recently told Radio Times.

“I found him such an attractive individual. He wanted to marry, he was fascinated with me, but only because of what he had seen on the screen,” said the actress, 92. “It didn’t injure or damage me in any way, because he maintained a friendship with me and my future husband (Peter Shaw).”

She was 19 and he was 35 when they got married. That union lasted nine months.

“It was just a terrible error I made as a very young woman,” Lansbury said. “But I don’t regret it.”—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
