Nominees for 1st Eddys awards out

Most nominated: “Die Beautiful,” starring Paolo Ballesteros

The comedy-drama “Die Beautiful” by Jun Robles Lana has earned the most number of nominations in the inaugural Entertainment Editors’ Choice Award for Movies—or the “Eddys”—which is organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (Speed).

The film leads the field with 13 nods, including best film, best director and best actor.

Meanwhile, the urban drama “Pamilya Ordinaryo” by Eduardo Roy, the live-action animation “Saving Sally,” and the comedy-drama “Everything About Her” by Joyce Bernal, received 12 nominations each.

The best actress race is particularly stacked with thespians like Nora Aunor (“Tuos”), Vilma Santos (“Everything About Her”), Charo Santos-Concio (“Ang Babaeng Humayo”) and Jaclyn Jose (“Ma’ Rosa”) vying for the trophy.

“Given our collective experience and many decades of chronicling the careers, artistic processes, and the successes and failures of actors, directors, producers and other players in the Philippine movie industry, we feel we are in a distinctive position to hand out sound recognition for the best in filmmaking over the past year,” Isah V. Red, Speed president and Manila Standard entertainment editor, said in a statement.

The awards ceremony is set on July 9 at the Kia Theatre, and will have a delayed telecast on ABS-CBN.
