Bill Mantlo, cocreator of “Guardians of the Galaxy” character Rocket Raccoon, suffered a brain injury and lost cognitive skills after a hit-and-run accident in 1992.

His brother Mike, who has been his guardian for 25 years, recently disclosed (as a Hollywood Reporter guest columnist): “Marvel negotiated and agreed to a nice compensation package for the rights to use Bill’s characters and, thanks to their acknowledging [of] Bill’s contributions, he’ll now be able to leave the institution he’s been living in since 1995, and have the in-home care he needs for the rest of his life.”

The former comic book scribe was able to watch the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films through private screenings. —OLIVER PULUMBARIT
