LOVI Poe

Lovi Poe gets out of her comfort zone in GMA 7’s drama series,  “Someone to Watch Over Me” (weeknights after “Descendants of the Sun”). She portrays a dutiful wife to her hubby (played by Tom Rodriguez), who has early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Lovi’s  lacrimal glands will be working overtime, and so will ours as we watch her turn into an “insignificant other” to her ailing husband. Let the crying game begin.

FEATURED STORIES

If you could relive one moment you had with your dad (the late Fernando Poe Jr.), which would it be?

The last time I saw him; that was the saddest day of my life. I’d like to feel what I felt that day again. I need it for my art.

What are your limits when it comes to love?

When the relationship becomes destructive and does not allow one’s individual self to grow, that for me is a red flag—meaning, it’s time to go.

What will make you want to get married?

Not age… I’ll only  get married when I know I’ve achieved everything I wanted as an individual—and of course [when I meet] the right man.

What do you find hard to understand about men?

Nothing, really. They’re not that complicated—or maybe I just got lucky?

If you were married and you learned  that your husband has a mistress, how would you handle it?

Difficult question. I’ll weigh things out—maybe work it out, or leave.

What did you tell your sister, Grace Poe, after she lost in the presidential election?

What I remember was, before election day itself… that no matter what the result was, I’d still be proud of her. She kept her integrity intact.

If your life were made into a movie, what would the title be and who would portray you?

“Elle.” Jennifer Lawrence.

Rita’s book signing

Rita Avila is celebrating her birthday month with a bang. She will have a book signing on Sept. 18, Sunday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the National Bookstore booth at SMX, Mall of Asia.

After writing children’s books, Rita ventures into romance stories via “Wanna Bet on  Love,” from Mindmaster Publishing.

She got the idea from her childhood memory of “mahjong sessions” in their home.

“The guy in the story hates gambling (like I do), and the girl is addicted to it—so how can they fall in love?” Rita  points out. “Oh well, love is a gamble, isn’t it?”

I salute Rita for pursuing her passion for writing. Write on, Virgo Sistah!

Baby MJ

Mi migo James Yap and ma cherie amie Mic Cazzola’s  baby boy Michael James (or MJ) turned 1 month cuter last Sept. 8.

The couple posted on Instagram their picture with MJ beside a cake. I asked James why they have not posted any closeup shots of their son.

“It seems Mic is not yet ready to share MJ’s  pictures with the public,” he explains. “In time, we will share his photos when Mic gives the go-signal.”

James also told me that Bimby has not met his baby brother yet. Mic and James call themselves “Team No Sleep,” because they are hands-on parents.

According to James, it’s only now that they’ve hired a yaya. “We had one month of training,” James says, “in changing diapers, lulling him to sleep and burping him.”
