Meanwhile, Wurtzbach strengthened her projects against Human Immunodeficiency Virus /Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS). In another Instagram post, she shared her experience when she attended the United Nations (UN) High-Level Meeting on Ending AIDS in New York last week, wherein she met with high and esteemed officials from the UN, such as UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé.

“Unfortunately, Philippines has one of the fastest, if not the fastest growing HIV epidemic in the world. And the age bracket? Mostly 15 to 24 years old. And we’ve increased by 25‰ in the last decade…There is no shame in being involved. Remember, Ignorance is also an epidemic,” she said in her caption.

In a separate Instagram post, she expounded, “Had the privilege to meet our dignitaries from their government’s respective health sectors. And we did an ASEAN handshake with our dignitaries from Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Miss Universe?, Singapore & the Philippines. Bagay ba?”

She also volunteered for Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC), a nongovernment organization wrestling AIDS in the United States. Gianna Francesca Catolico

Such an honor to meet Michel Sidibé. Executive director of UNAIDS and under secretary general to the United Nations. What’s even more humbling is that he congratulated me and was open to discuss further plans to help the Philippines. Unfortunately, Philippines has one of the fastest, if not the fastest growing HIV epidemic in the world. And the age bracket? Mostly 15 to 24 years old. And we’ve increased by 25‰ in the last decade. But there’s still hope! 1st step is to get tested. And of course to educate yourself and others. There is no shame in being involved. Remember, Ignorance is also an epidemic. #UNAIDS #UnitedNations
