Miriam Quiambao’s take on the Miss Universe boo-boo
The Miss Universe announcement faux pas of Steve Harvey ought to give him a star in the “Walk of Shame.”
I asked Miss Universe 1999 1st runner-up Miriam Quiambao-Roberto about her sentiments on the ballyhooed incident.
Here’s her take:
“Human error during a live show is very possible, and it happens all the time! Too bad for Steve Harvey that his mistake was magnified because it was on a global stage! He should have had more focus! I’m sure it took a lot for him to admit his mistake and apologize for it right then and there. He did the right thing.
“I’m sorry for Miss Colombia [Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo] who had to face an embarrassing moment, but judging from the post-Miss Universe videos, she seemed to have graciously accepted her defeat. Kudos to Pia [Wurtzbach] for her grace and humility when the final verdict was announced! She patiently and graciously waited for the crown to be rightfully given to her. I even saw a video of her being amongst one of the girls consoling Miss Colombia. Truly a lady with a heart!”

Article continues after this advertisementHave you noticed that all the TV commercials (TVC) of AlDub—the phenomenal love team of GMA 7’s “Eat Bulaga”—are aired differently on ABS-CBN?
In the Kapamilya network, it’s either only Alden Richards or Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza, who is seen in the advertisements. They never appear together in the versions of their TVCs on ABS-CBN 2. It’s the network’s prerogative. Perhaps, they just don’t want to promote AlDub since they have to protect their own love teams, such as KathNiel, LizQuen and JaDine. It only goes to show how formidable AlDub has become. The “kalyeserye” sensation has worked wonders for the Kapuso network.
GMA 7 could very well stand for “Goldmine Maine Alden.”
All-out support
Speaking of AlDub, their legions of fans will definitely troop to the theaters on Christmas Day to watch their very first movie together, “My Bebe Love: #Kilig Pa More” with Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai delas Alas. Produced jointly by five giant film outfits—OctoArts Films, M-Zet, APT Entertainment, GMA Films and Media Production—the film is likely to set a brand-new record in Metro Manila Film Festival history.
Ai-Ai has a “Bebe love” in real life. Aside from her kids and adopted little boy, Andre, she also dotes on beleaguered young actor, Jiro Manio.
“I love him like my own. That’s why I shoulder all his rehab expenses,” says Ai. “When he gets out of rehab, I plan to rent an apartment for him so he can start over. He needs to have injections regularly to calm him down. It’s my lifetime commitment to him! I just hope he won’t go back to his old ways, so all my support would not be in vain.”
That kind of all-out support she also got from Bossing Vic. “I am forever grateful to Vic,” beams Ai, “because he was there for me during my darkest hours. We are super close. Kulang na lang mag-sex kami (laughs). My transfer to GMA 7 could not have come at a better time. Everything just fell into place.”
The Comedy Queen can never be dethroned.
