‘Space Month’ on Discovery

HEAR chilling firsthand accounts of space exploration disasters from more than 20 astronauts who managed to slip away from tragedy and lived to tell tales of close calls and equipment malfunction with Discovery Channel’s new series, “Secret Space Escapes,” every Friday at 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, “UFOs: Declassified” offers an exclusive peek at previously unreleased UFO (unidentified flying object) footage once shelved in government files.

Listen to stories from pilots sent out to tackle enemy aircraft, only to discover peculiar flying machines. Backtrack to the 1980s and ’90s, where dark, triangular flying objects were spotted. “UFOs: Declassified” airs Saturdays to Thursdays, 9 p.m.

In the special “Pluto: First Encounter,” records from the 9-year-old New Horizons spacecraft of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) are recollected, featuring documents such as Pluto’s very first images and accounts from the astronauts who took them. Could the collating of these records offer a fresh perspective on the planet, and even on the origin of the solar system? “Pluto: First Encounter” will air on Nov. 21, 9 p.m.
