N.W.A. Their film is now the highest-grossing musical biopic.

The filmed story of N.W.A., “Straight Outta Compton,” is now the highest-grossing musical biopic ever, with a smash box-office haul of $157 million. It stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, and is directed by F. Gary Gray.

Boni Logroño’s documentary, “Unsurrendered 2: 100 Voices,” had its premiere screening at the Ayala Museum last Sept. 21, jointly hosted by its producer, Philippine Veterans Bank, and Spyron-AV Manila. The documentary focuses on the heroic exploits of the Hunters ROTC Guerrillas, who fought invading Japanese forces from 1942 to 1945.

FEATURED STORIES

Executive-produced by Peter Parsons and Lucky Guillermo, the docu makes viewers appreciate why teenage CMT and ROTC cadets deemed too young to fight in the war organized themselves to become one of the most effective guerrilla units that helped defeat the enemy. It is hoped that the documentary will inspire today’s youth to be similarly patriotic.

Lovely Viva star Yassi Pressman’s time to shine has come, by way of her much-awaited big-screen reunion with Andre Paras in Wenn Deramas’ rollicking “Wang Fam” comedy flick.

Coming up next is the even more exciting movie adaptation of the hit rom-com novel, “Girlfriend For Hire.” Yassi has also come out with a self-titled album, now out on iTunes and Spotify, and is very visible on MTV Pinoy and other TV programs.

Ramon Magsaysay awardee

Ramon Magsaysay awards honoree Ligaya Amilbangsa is the featured guest on “Art2Art” on Sept. 27 (3:30 p.m. on dzRH and RHTV). The arts and culture advocate will be joined by dancers performing pangalay dance numbers, which she has helped conserve and promote.

‘Breaking Through’

YouTube phenomenon, Sophia Aguilar, stars in her own dance movie, “Breaking Through,” written and directed by John Swetnam. The movie, which opened this week, features original music by John Legend.
