‘Straight Outta Compton’ sets record
The filmed story of N.W.A., “Straight Outta Compton,” is now the highest-grossing musical biopic ever, with a smash box-office haul of $157 million. It stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, and is directed by F. Gary Gray.
Premiere screening
Boni Logroño’s documentary, “Unsurrendered 2: 100 Voices,” had its premiere screening at the Ayala Museum last Sept. 21, jointly hosted by its producer, Philippine Veterans Bank, and Spyron-AV Manila. The documentary focuses on the heroic exploits of the Hunters ROTC Guerrillas, who fought invading Japanese forces from 1942 to 1945.
Executive-produced by Peter Parsons and Lucky Guillermo, the docu makes viewers appreciate why teenage CMT and ROTC cadets deemed too young to fight in the war organized themselves to become one of the most effective guerrilla units that helped defeat the enemy. It is hoped that the documentary will inspire today’s youth to be similarly patriotic.
