Benefits of bread

/ 04:04 AM June 27, 2015

A staple food that’s keeping us healthy is bread. It has vitamins, minerals, protein, complex carbohydrates and fiber. It is low in fat and cholesterol, and encourages growth of beneficial bacteria in the stomach that keep the immune system strong.

Its folic acid helps delay the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease, and lowers the incidence of birth defects, which makes it ideal for pregnant women. Calcium is good for the bones.

According to Dr. Marites Yee, dean of UP Los Baños’ College of Human Ecology, even white bread contains fiber, which aids in digestion—so, people on a diet need not worry about gaining weight. It also contains good cholesterol.
