All systems go for Identity Crisis reunion gig

/ 06:50 PM August 29, 2011

The idea to hold a reunion concert was offered last year, said Leni Llapitan, keyboardist of Identity Crisis—one of the pioneering Filipino alternative bands of the 1980s. “But they (the promoters) didn’t want to fly in three members who were abroad. We felt we would be shortchanging the fans,” Llapitan told the Inquirer.

But early this year three more offers came in, prompting Llapitan to ask the proponents to join forces for the gig to happen.

It’s now all systems go for “Rebel Yell!”—billed as “a New Wave concert/dance party” to be held September 9, 8 p.m. at NBC Tent, Bonifacio Global City.

Resty Cornejo, Identity Crisis guitarist, arrived Saturday from Hong Kong for the concert; drummer Marvin Mendiola is flying in from the United States; although bassist Bogs Ambrosio, who succumbed to a heart attack in Singapore recently, will sadly be missed.

Completing the lineup are vocalists “Cool Carla” Abaya and Buddy Arceo and Llapitan.

“We want it to be like a family reunion! We’ll all be wearing our boots, trench coats and hairstyles as we used to,” said Llapitan.
