KC Concepcion awaits a suitor’s ‘grand gesture’

SHE SAYS she’s not exclusively dating anyone right now.

When the full trailer of ABS-CBN’s new television series “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” was shown recently to the show biz press, one of the things that instantly caught everyone’s attention was KC Concepcion’s steamy elevator kissing scene with costar Sam Milby.

One veteran scribe couldn’t help asking the 28-year-old actor-television host, “How can you do such a scene when you’re loveless?”

Swiftly and teasingly, Concepcion, who broke up with French filmmaker Pierre-Emmanuel Plassart earlier this year, replied, “Ayy! Loveless nga ba?”

Concepcion would not reveal the identity of her suitor—or suitors—saying she was not exclusively dating anyone right now.

“I don’t want to preempt anything. I’ll tell you when I’m ready,” she said. “I’m just waiting for a grand gesture from one of them…and then I’ll consider.”

Is Houston Rockets basketball player Chandler Parsons one of them, as earlier reported? “Sa akin na lang po ’yun,” Concepcion begged off.

She did admit, however, that most of her suitors were foreigners although she was quick to add she had nothing against Filipino men.

A frequent traveler, the actor was asked if she met up with her suitors when she went out of the country. “Sila ang pumupunta sa akin!” she said, laughing. “I’m the girl here!”

One of Concepcion’s handlers then requested the show biz scribes to ask questions about the soap. A tad miffed, a TV reporter grudgingly fired a cornball question: “So, have you ever told anyone, ‘Huwag ka lang mawawala?’”

“Yes, of course. I’ve been in love…But past is past,” Concepcion said, effectively closing the door on inevitable follow-up questions about Piolo Pascual.

Was there anything Concepcion learned from failed relationships? “If your partner can’t give you 100 percent, huwag na lang. You’ll end up going home with nothing,” she said.

She added, “I’ve learned that there’s a difference between nagpapa-yummy and being disrespectful. I don’t understand why it’s the men who play hard to get at times.”

In “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala,” for the first time in her career, Concepcion will play a villain—something, she noted, that had not been done by her mother, Sharon Cuneta.

Although she shared many similarities with her mom, Concepcion said her decision to accept the role of Alexis highlighted their differences in personality. “I think I’ve made riskier choices…My mom would tell me that I’m a red sports car; she’s a red SUV,” she said.

However, she confessed that she might have turned down the offer if it was not Judy Ann Santos she would be working with. “I can say that this is my first time to do ‘real’ acting.

Playing Alexis is challenging, exciting and a lot of fun. This is my baptism of fire,” Concepcion said, adding that working with Santos was a good opportunity to learn more about the craft.

In one of her confrontation scenes with Santos, Concepcion said the more experienced actor slapped her so hard that she swore she saw stars circling her head. “But to be slapped by Ms Juday is an honor,” she said, laughing. “Not many can say that!”
