Maricar Reyes is all the love songs that crooner Richard Poon has ever sung. The newlyweds are out to prove that marriage can survive in the cruel world of show biz.
The groom took a short break from their honeymoon to share his post-wedding thoughts. Romance is candlelight, love songs and the sweet scent of roses at sunset. Marriage is paying bills, the evening news and a whiff of burnt toast in the morning.
May Maricar and Richard have enough love to not notice the difference.
Here’s the groom in full bloom:
What’s your song for Maricar?
“I’ll Take Care of You.”
How has Maricar changed your views about love?
Her respectful and loving support despite my flaws makes it easier for me to lead and love her.
What love lessons have you learned that you will apply to your marriage?
Never tolerate shouting and sarcasm. Precise adjustments can only be made with truth and honesty (even when it hurts). Study your spouse’s temperament, love language and main emotional needs. Meet those needs.
What’s the sweetest thing Maricar and you have done for each other?
I cooked home-style chicken noodles for her. She made me a personalized key chain with a love letter.
When you have a misunderstanding, how do you kiss and make up?
We listen to each other’s views and do not interrupt each other. We affirm the good points of the other’s argument. We remind ourselves that we’re on the same team.
What made you decide that Maricar was the one for you?
I stayed away for over a year. My infatuation faded and my emotions settled but it was still her that I wanted to be with.
How many kids do you plan to have?
Two to three.
What limits will you set for Maricar in her career?
No more kissing scenes.
What scares you most about marriage?
Good couples divorcing, getting annulled and having extra-marital affairs.
What excites you most about marriage?
Growing with her through the seasons.
What’s something people don’t know about Maricar?
That she’s a very simple girl.
What’s your promise to Maricar?
To love her and stay beside her in good [times] or bad.

PERSONAL: Merci beaucoup to fab couple Marco and Lara Alcaraz for the yummy dinner in their cozy French restaurant, Kuisine, at Molito in Alabang. The truffles pasta and chicken foie gras croquettes are must-tries. Felt like a student in Paris again.
