Filipino actress Angeli Bayani got a rave review from trade paper Variety for her work in Anthony Chen’s “Iloilo.” winner of Camera D’Or for best first feature film at the recently concluded Cannes fest. Said critic Maggie Lee: “[As a nanny in Singapore, Bayani] is as unself-conscious as a nonpro thesp. She radiates dignity even though her character is neither martyr nor saint, but rather a pragmatic woman who [would] lie a little to survive; the emotional heft Bayani brings to the bittersweet ending will make it hard for audiences to leave dry-eyed.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
