MANILA, Philippines — Big-budget, mainstream movies won most of the trophies at the 31st Luna Awards, handed out by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), in a ceremony held on Saturday at the Quezon City Sports Club.
Mark Meily’s historical epic “El Presidente,” produced by Viva, CMB Films and Scenema Concepts, won best film.
Olivia M. Lamasan won best director for the adult drama “The Mistress,” produced by Star Cinema.
Angel Locsin won best actress for another Star Cinema drama, Ruel S. Bayani’s “One More Try.” Best actor was won by John Lloyd Cruz for “The Mistress.”
Cruz’s costars in “The Mistress” also brought home trophies: Best supporting actress, Hilda Koronel, and supporting actor, Ronaldo Valdez.
“The Mistress” also won best screenplay (Vanessa R. Valdez) and editing (Marya Ignacio).
“El Presidente,” for its part, won best cinematography (Carlo Mendoza), production design (Danny Red and Joel MV Bilbao), musical score (Jessie Lasaten) and sound (Albert Michael Idioma).
