Cool it, girls

POKWANG. No need to overemphasize the obvious. FILE PHOTO

Alex Reyes, televiewer: “I don’t understand why TV comediennes deliver their lines at the top of their voices. Do Melai Cantiveros, K Brosas, Joy Viado and Pokwang think that the audience is deaf? And, as if their ‘loudness’ isn’t enough, they have to contort their faces to look funny!

“They should realize that their looks are what initially made them funny. There’s no need to overemphasize the obvious—otherwise, they’ll end up looking like they’re trying too hard!”

Other notes:

Ed Buenafe, pharmacist: “Dennis Trillo started out as a very promising actor. Lately, though, he seems stuck in similar roles: He’s either the bad guy or the clean-cut romantic lead. I hope he can reinvent himself and surprise his fans with portrayals that are fresh and edgy.”

Tess Doce-Halili, writer-photographer: “Vice Ganda’s vulgar jokes about Jessica Soho really leaves a bad taste in the mouth. It’s disgusting to get laughs at the expense of people who are serious in their craft as journalists just because they’re ‘horizontally challenged.’ He’s a far cry from Willie Nepomuceno—he makes fun of famous personalities, but always in good taste.”

Poor taste

Marissa Dames, businesswoman: “I enjoy a good laugh, but, I think it’s in poor taste to do it at other people’s expense, more so when sensitive topics like rape are trivialized and used to insult a respected journalist like Jessica Soho.”

Ric Napuran, theater actor: “While Filipino films are making waves internationally, I’m saddened by the passing of Celso Ad. Castillo, Mario O’Hara, Marilou Diaz-Abaya and National Artist for Film Eddie Romero. I hope these esteemed directors’ steadfast dedication and love for our film industry will inspire young filmmakers to come up with films that we can truly be proud of!”
