Glamorous actress recounts violence at home

/ 08:19 PM April 26, 2011

HER MOTHER was a battered wife, confesses acclaimed actress and TV host Angel Aquino. She anchors “Kinse,” a six-part series of short films about human rights airing next month on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.

“Kinse”—which takes its title from the 15 directors (Erik Matti, Carlitos Siguion-Reyna and Paolo Villaluna, among them) who took part in the project—also features a promotional teaser in which Aquino projects glamour and power. But after taking her clothes off piece by piece, she reveals a battered woman with bruises all over her body.

In an interview done by the network for the teaser, Aquino says she feels deeply for victims of human rights violations because she personally experienced it at home while growing up.

She recalled: “My tatay would make all the decisions at ’pag hindi siya nasusunod, madali niyang masaktan ang nanay ko. Akala namin ang tatay ganun talaga.”
