MANILA, Philippines — Barely a week before the midterm elections, popular TV actor  Richard Yap, more known as “Ser Chief” made a strong push for the candidacy of former Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr., whom he  described as a person with “unquestionable integrity,”  “untainted background,”  and “track record”.

“As mature and wise voters, we all need to look much further than  personal interests. If we want this country to grow, if we love this country, we need to elect leaders who have the political will to do what needs to be done. It’s our responsibility as voters to put in government the people who can help our nation,” Yap said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Our country needs someone who has an unquestionable integrity, someone who has an untainted background, someone who has the track record to do the things that needs to be done. I believe that Senator Magsaysay Jr. possesses all these. Senator Magsaysay Jr. is the one,” he said.

Yap believes that Magsaysay can help the government implement much-needed reforms in our country, especially in education.

Magsaysay’s advocacies for the youth and on free education, he said, made him a “standout” among the candidates running for the Senate this election.

Yap said his support for the former senator was “voluntary and free.”

“It does not come with any monetary considerations. I don’t endorse anyone unless I believe in him. I don’t give out my services just to endorse people. It’s not the money,”  the actor added.
