MANILA, Philippines—Senator Panfilo  Lacson   became  richer by P7 million in 2012 after  getting a royalty for a movie  about his life as a fugitive three years ago.

From P22.6 million in 2011,  Lacson’s net worth increased to  P28.8 million  in 2012 based on  the  statement of assets, liabilities and  net worth  (SALN) he filed  before  the  Office of the Senate Secretary.

The surge, Lacson said in a text message on Wednesday , was “mainly due to the  P7 million payment for my film rights in  2012.”

“I haven’t seen the final script yet but the storyline focuses on  my life while in hiding,”  he said of  the  movie.

The senator refused to say   who  would play  his  role but  said in  jest that the actor would “of course be handsome, famous and macho.”

Lacson suddenly disappeared  in early 2010 after  a warrant of arrest was issued against him  for the double murder of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito. He resurfaced in March 2011 after the Court of Appeals voided the warrant.

In his 2012  SALN, Lacson  declared total assets  amounting to  P41.4 million and   total liabilities of   P12.6 million  (loans payable worth P10 million and  income  tax payable amounting to P2.6 million).

His net assets amounted to  P28.856 million.

Among the  personal  assets which he declared in  his SALN were the  cash on hand/bank amounting to P24.7 million, jewelry worth P3.8 million, furniture/antiques worth P1.4 million, stocks/investments worth P9.1 million, motor vehicle worth P1.15 million and assorted firearms  worth P1.1 million.
