Stars recount favorite summer experiences

The heat is on! I cornered some celebs and asked about their fondest summer memories, as kids and adults.

Mine would be our family’s train trips to Bauang, La Union (when my late grandpa, Nicanor Jimenez, or Nich, was general manager of the Philippine National Railways).  After a few days down at the beach, we would drive up to Baguio. As an adult, it would be the summer I studied in Paris with my cousin Kara. We lived with a French family and immersed ourselves in everything the City of Light had to offer.

Whatever your summer plans are, make sure you bring your own brand of sunshine wherever you go, your Royal Hotnesses!

Eugene Domingo

My summers as a child were days of playing outdoor games like patintero, habulan, taguan, tumbang preso, etc., and spending money on sorbetes (dirty ice cream), halo-halo and all kinds of street food. I enjoyed summer more as a kid. As an adult, I guess I should learn to ignore the scorching heat and enjoy the beach instead, get a good tan—without forgetting to wear sun block.

Christian Bautista

As a kid, when my family and I went to Ocean Park in Hong Kong. Cable cars, slides, rides… As an adult, when I went to Boracay with my family, too, but it was more fun because my cousins joined us.

Vivian Velez

As a kid, it’s hanging out with playmates and just being silly. As an adult, it’s traveling.  Europe’s summer sale is a must!

Nyoy Volante

Sometimes in  the middle of summer, there would be a storm. As a kid, I enjoyed bathing in the rain and playing till my mom called me home. As an adult, it has to be reminiscing on fun summers as a kid.

Arnell Ignacio

I remember almost drowning in Puerto Galera. People thought I was kidding because they said I was smiling. Only a foreigner made an accurate assessment of the situation and jumped in to save me.

Ara Mina

As a kid, I used to stay with my lola and play patintero and tumbang preso with my cousins. I also remember climbing trees. But I was not one to roam the streets; I just played inside our compound in Santolan (Quezon City). We used to play Little Miss Philippines. My eldest cousin played the host, others were judges and the little ones like me were the contestants. As an adult, it’s my trip to Phi Phi Island (Thailand) where “The Beach” was filmed.

Sister pact

What better time than Semana Santa to make peace? After the terrible word war between sisters Ara Mina and Cristine Reyes, they have buried the hatchet. Sisterhood should always be a good thing. Here’s Ara’s story:

“Cristine texted me on Maundy Thursday, asked if we could talk. I replied on Good Friday; she came to my place and we had a long heart-to-heart talk. She admitted she was wrong. We cried together. We feel closer now). She met my boyfriend, Pat. We vowed to have a bonding day weekly. On Easter Sunday, we went to church with the family.”

Personal: Happy second anniversary to my fave “pampering place,” Oskee Cabeltis Salon (in the same building as Club Mwah along Boni Avenue, Mandaluyong). Thanks a mil to Tito Oskee and his efficient staff for being the best friends of my “dalaGAY” IC’s hair and mine as well. HAIRiffic service!
