Wake-up call for Martin

NIEVERA. Back to what he does best.

Eleuterio De Guzman, college instructor: “I’m delighted to discover that my idol, Martin Nievera, is back to hosting a late night talk-show. I think that is something he does very well. But to do better, Martin should push the envelope and start learning how to speak fluently in Tagalog.

Maybe he can have a one-on-one interview with the likes of Prof. Randy David, whose impeccable Tagalog and patriotism can become a wake-up call for Martin to discover his Filipino roots.”

Other notes:

Marilyn Lopez, OFW, Israel: “Alessandra de Rossi and Nora Aunor should do a movie together. I consider both as sensitive and intuitive actresses who don’t go for hysterics. The possibilities are endless as far as roles are concerned for these two exceptional and talented artists.”

Deo Antazo, English teacher and film buff, KSA: “It is quite disappointing that the average Pinoy moviegoer still lacks sophistication in evaluating quality films. Recent box office results show that most Pinoys still support never-ending romantic comedy films churned out by major production companies. Independent films are still looking for the right audience.

“The government should do its part in promoting film literacy. Some private companies had done a commendable job in restoring classic Filipino films for the younger generation. Filipinos should learn that films are made not only for cheap entertainment, but more importantly as part of our cultural heritage.”

Nida Castor, student: “Geoff Eigenmann looks so bulky on television nowadays. Sadly, it gets in the way of his performance in his afternoon soap. ‘Forever.’ I could overlook his present appearance if he were a comedian, but for a lead dramatic actor, it just doesn’t look right.”
