The parents of Margie Penson Juico, now chairperson of PCSO, were both in the Christian Family Movement, and got their young daughter involved in socio-civic and religious activities at their parish.
As a youth, Margie was already exposed to helping the poor as an enlightened product of St. Theresa’s College.
When Corazon Cojuangco Aquino became president, Margie became her appointments secretary. Later, Margie was appointed as PCSO board member.
Under President Noynoy Aquino, Margie, founder of the Yellow Ribbon Movement, was appointed chairperson of PCSO, and universal medical and health-care services became available to the marginalized sector.
The PCSO, under Margie’s leadership, has initiated cost-cutting measures, introduced other games, established offices in all provinces, and simplified work procedures. She has opened the PCSO Charity Clinic at the Lung Center, exclusively for indigent cancer patients.
Margie will be celebrating her birthday on April 10 by attending Mass—and continuing to do good for her countrymen. Happy Birthday, Margie!
