MES DE Guzman’s “Diablo”

Three Filipino films will be screened at the 5th CPH PIX, to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from April 11 to 24. The three films were praised in the fest’s website. Antoinette Jadaone’s “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay” was described as a “charming mockumentary… intensely moving, extremely relevant.” Mes de Guzman’s “Diablo” was called “excellent and extremely well-produced… oozing with humor and luring us with a dose of magic realism.” Brillante Ma. Mendoza’s “Thy Womb” was hailed for “telling an everyday story with great humanist flair and abundant imagination.”

Three Filipino films will be featured at the 14th Jeonju International Film Festival, to be held in South Korea from April 25 to May 3. Dwein Baltazar’s “Mamay Umeng” is vying for the top prize in the International Competition. Meanwhile, John Torres’ “Lukas Niño” and Shireen Seno’s “Big Boy” are included in the Stranger Than Cinema section. One of two premier festivals in South Korea (the other being Busan), Jeonju aims to spotlight “challenging and creative films that veer away from the mainstream.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
