MANILA, Philippines — A speedboat owned by actor Aga Muhlach exploded early Saturday, injuring the driver, his lawyer said.
In a statement from Michelle Juan forwarded to the Philippine Daily Inquirer by Muhlach’s manager Ethel Ramos, it said that Aga and his wife, Charlene were not on the boat when it exploded around 6 a.m. in Caramoan, Camarines Sur.
Juan quoted initial reports as saying that the engine and gas tank ignited and then exploded.
Juan said that the Muhlachs have been secured in an undisclosed location in the province but were closely monitoring the situation.
“They [the Muhlachs] are relieved that no one was seriously injured, and are grateful for the outpouring of concern for their safety and security,” said Juan.
The explosion occurred in the midst of Aga Muhlach’s congressional bid in Camarines Sur in May although no link has yet been established between Saturday’s incident and his political campaign.
