Cheer Factor: Restored ‘Maynila’ in Cannes
Briccio Santos, chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), has announced that the digitally restored 1975 Lino Brocka movie, “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag,” will have its world premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival in May. “Maynila” is currently undergoing digital restoration at the L’Immagine Ritrovata in Italy, through the efforts of the FDCP and the World Cinema Foundation, chaired by Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Last year, FDCP made possible the premiere of Manuel Conde’s restored “Genghis Khan” at the Venice fest. Bayani San Diego Jr.
