Jun Robles Lana’s “Kuwentong Barbero (Barber’s Tales)” won four awards at the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), which ended on March 20:
1) HAF Award (top prize), which comes with US$19,300 (P786,855); 2) ARRI Award, which allows “access to rental of camera and lighting equipment worth US$38,800 (P1,581,092)”; 3) Technicolor Asia award, which comes with post-production services (from the Thailand firm of the same name) worth US$25,000 (P1,018,745); and 4) the second Catapooolt award, which comes with US$1,000 (P40,745). Catapooolt is the official crowd-funding platform of HAF 2013.
All in all, that’s over P3 million in prizes, according to Perci Intalan, producer of “Barber’s Tales,” second in Lana’s planned trilogy on rural life that began with “Bwakaw.”
Lawrence Fajardo’s “Juan Tansan (One Thousand)” won the third Catapooolt prize which comes with US$500 (P20,374).
“It’s a special award [and] we got a French producer who would help us. I’m happy about that,” Fajardo told the Inquirer.
“Juan Tansan” is about a bungled game of chance that affects the lives of ordinary Filipinos. Bayani San Diego Jr.
