She wasn’t nominated in any category in the recent Star Awards for Movies. But the moment Sunshine Cruz stepped out of her car, reporters rushed to gather around her. And before she could even set foot in the AFP Theater lobby, questions were already being thrown at the actress left and right.
Everyone was dying to ask about her marital troubles with husband Cesar Montano. But before diving into the issue, some warm-up questions about her show biz comeback after a 13-year hiatus were in order.
Are you nervous about getting back to acting again? “Yes, of course. But I’m still adjusting. I’m so glad that everyone has been so supportive,” she said.
She’s been taping a TV series for ABS-CBN titled “Dugong Buhay” with Ejay Falcon and Arjo Atayde. “I’ve missed show biz, and I’m glad that show biz is still here to welcome me back,” said Cruz.
What she probably didn’t miss were the intrigues—and there are a lot of them hounding her right now. So, quite understandably, when she was finally prodded about Cesar’s alleged infidelity, Sunshine’s reaction was, “I could lose my curls with these questions!”
Earlier this year, Sunshine caught the ire of her husband’s rumored mistress and “Alfredo S. Lim: The Untold Story” costar Krista Miller, who posted on Twitter pictures of gifts (chocolates, shirts and an iPhone 5) given to her by Cesar. Turned out, the items were from Sunshine herself.
Since then, there has been persistent talk that Cesar and Sunshine have finally gone separate ways. And when asked to confirm if she was indeed staying in a different house, “Yes,” was Sunshine’s short but resounding reply.
“I just want to be happy right now and do whatever will do me good,” she said. “I just want to move on.”
Despite everything, Sunshine confessed that her feelings for Cesar were not about to vanish just like that. “He’s my first love, my first boyfriend,” she said. “But for now, what’s important for me is to focus on my kids and my career, especially since offers are starting to pour in.”
The couple has three girls: Angelina Isabelle, Samantha Angelene and Angel Franchesca.
How are they dealing with the situation? “They’re smart children. They understand what’s going on,” Sunshine said, adding that she drew strength from them and from God.
