After a disruptive “falling out” in 2001 that resulted in the cancellation of their then-ongoing drama series, all’s well again between GMA 7contract artists Sunshine Dizon and Angelika de la Cruz.
After many years, the two actresses will be working together again in “Mundo Mo’y Akin,” Kapuso’s latest primetime series that premieres tonight.
“Time heals all wounds. I’m not the type who carries grudges,” Sunshine told the Inquirer on Tuesday night.
Sunshine and Angelika were last seen together in “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin,” where their bickering got so bad that members of the production team opted to take out Sunshine’s character from the show. Since then, the two were never made to work together on any drama show again.
“I guess (Angelika and I) have both become mature now that we’re both married and with kids,” Sunshine declared. “On the set, we now talk more about life and family. I think that back then, our bickering was fueled by the people around us.”
Here are excerpts from the Inquirer interview.
Have you finally adjusted to going back to work?
I sat down with my bosses before accepting this project. I was very clear about my work schedule. I imposed a cut-off. I’m just very lucky because GMA 7 is very lenient and understanding.
Did you miss acting?
Yes. When I took a break, at the back of my head, I knew that one day I’d come back. It’s just a matter of timing and landing the right project. Something good came along and it was very hard to refuse.
Why did you agree to do this show, knowing that it’s similar to your old program, “Bakekang?”
Its only similarity to “Bakekang” is the use of prosthetic makeup. The character and story are very different. Bakekang was angry and bitter with the world. She wanted to do something to change her life. My new character, Perlita, is very accepting. She’s naive in the sense that she believes people will still love her despite her ugly appearance.
Did you ever think of quitting show business altogether?
My kids are really my priority. This (show biz career) is only secondary. Actually, I feel that show biz is just always there. If I want to come back and then I get offered to do something, I’d go.
Does your husband (Timothy Tan) approve of your going back to work?
There’s this impression that he’s against it, but he’s actually very supportive. We both agree that there has to be limitations now that I’m already taking care of two babies. I can’t be made to work for long hours.
What can you say about the rumor that you’re transferring to another network?
Yes, there was an offer (from TV5). It just so happened that the offer to do “Mundo Ko’y Ikaw” was so hard to resist.
How are you as a mom?
just hope to become the best mother I can be. Doreen Isabelle will just turn 2 in April while my son, Antonio, is only 10 months old.
Didn’t you have apprehensions about accepting mother roles?
I really didn’t mind. I’m 29 now and Louise (de los Reyes, who will play her daughter Marilyn) is 20. For me, it’s just a character. As an actor, I’ve always tried to push the limit. I like thinking out of the box.
“Mundo Mo’y Akin” also features Alden Richards, Lauren Young, Jolina Magdangal, Gabby Eigenmann and Jaclyn Jose. Andoy Ranay directs.
