“I FIND [producing] a venue for the release of my inner desire as an artist.”
De la Fuente was here on Sunday for the showing of her first film venture, “Forget Me Not,” directed by Deo Fajardo.
The film stars Jodi Sta. Maria, Chynna Ortaleza, Bela Padilla, Baron Geisler, Richard Quan and veterans Jaclyn Jose, Rey “PJ” Abellana and Glenda Garcia.
De la Fuente was only 15 and an accounting freshman at the University of the East when she won the grand prize in the first singing contest she joined. She performed the Carpenters’ song, “Love Me for What I Am,” which earned her the title, “Karen Carpenter of the Philippines.”
She manages a fleet of buses in Metro Manila and heads the Integrated Metropolitan Bus Operators Association (Imboa).
Before the film screening, De la Fuente told students of the College of Research and Technology that her business management skills helped her even in show business.
She said she began developing “Forget Me Not” in 2010 and that, as a marketing strategy, she negotiated with big schools in Metro Manila and the provinces for special screenings.
The film is about greed, ambition, murder and revenge. “I will not tell you the full synopsis,” she said. “There’s a learning process involved for the viewers.”
