Ang Li: ‘From China to Chopin’

Acclaimed pianist Ang Li will be featured in two shows at the Peta Theater Center on March 20.

Ang Li, ranked among the world’s top 30 pianists during the 2009 Cliburn Competition, performs the music of Chopin and Liszt, as well as Chinese folk songs adapted for solo piano. “From China to Chopin, Ang Li Live in Manila” starts at 8 p.m. Before that, at 2 p.m., she performs the works of Mozart, Chopin and Tchaikovsky in “Classical Music for Young People.”

‘The King and I’ extended

The successful run of “The King and I” at the Newport Theater in Resorts World has been extended to May. The lead roles of King Mongkut and Anna are played alternately by two sets of actors—Bo Cerrudo and Sheila Valderrama, and Nonie Buencamino and Menchu Lauchengco. The “King and I” won the 2012 Aliw Award for best director (Freddie Santos) and best musical production.

Motion City Soundtrack

American pop-punk band Motion City Soundtrack will perform on March 9 at the SM City North Edsa Sky Dome. Motion City Soundtrack was formed in 1997, and has since released five albums and sold almost 600,000 records, over half a million in the United States alone.

‘Axe-tronaut’ makes ‘flyby’

The Axe Apollo Space Academy (AASA) “astronaut” made an appearance at the recently-concluded  18th Hot Air Balloon Festival. He participated in different aerial stunts, while the AASA hot air balloon took to the skies. Accompanying the “astronaut” were the Axe Apollo Space Girls and sexy stars Jinri Park and Ashley Rivera.
