Dandin Ranillo, movie producer: “I read last week’s item in which Steven Dy of Cagayan de Oro posed the question, ‘Where are the Visayan movies?’ I tried to help revive the Visayan movie industry by making a film recently. But, it seems that the main problem is support—or lack of it—from theater owners and bookers, even if the lead actors are known personalities. Until now, I’m still trying to book my film.”

Charm Leviste, businessperson: “Watching ‘Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw’ has been especially stressful for me, a cancer survivor. Kris Aquino, who plays a character who has stage three cervical cancer, makes it worse. Moaning and screaming in pain isn’t a characteristic of someone suffering from that type of cancer. In fact, a number of cervical cancer patients advance to stage four without even knowing it!
Medical advice
“If Kris thinks overacting the role helps in bringing sick, marginalized women to clinics for cancer screening, she should think again. They could even shun getting medical advice altogether. I hope the medical community, specifically oncologists who treat this type of cancer, can help give a more realistic view of this ailment.”
Sylvia Catan, televiewer: “Alice Dixon’s performance as a kontrabida on ‘Never Say Goodbye’ is an improvement on her past portrayal on another series. She has, for the most part, eliminated her irritating voice and delivery. She has also maintained her youthful looks.”
Lucille Laxamana, music teacher: “I’ve been a follower of Lea Salonga since her ‘Annie’ days, and I’ve seen how she has matured gracefully and soared to international acclaim. However, I think she would really make her mark as a Pinoy artist if she appears in an original Filipino musical. Now that would be something to look forward to!”
