Sunshine Cruz is raring to go back to show biz after taking a hiatus when she married Cesar Montano 13 years ago. For the love of Buboy, she turned her back on the biz and became a full-time wife and mother. Even after three kids, Shine still hasn’t lost her movie-star appeal.
So much has been said and written about her marital woes. While things are still in limbo between Buboy and her, she’s off to regain paradise lost in the biz. All the trials have given her a deeper reservoir of emotions to draw from as she faces the camera again. Instead of licking her wounds, Shine will turn her scars into stars.
Here’s Sunshine after the storm:
How do you feel about your show biz comeback?
To be honest, I’m quite nervous. I have been doing small guest roles for the past 13 years, so it’s like starting from A again. But I’m also excited. I’ve been getting offers lately. But I don’t want to seem greedy by accepting them all (laughs).
What are the projects lined up for you?
My manager, Alfie Lorenzo, has accepted two offers. One is with my cousin Sheryl Cruz and four new actresses. Working title is “Apat na Maria.” The other one will be directed by Toto Natividad. It’s an action series but I’m not at liberty yet to divulge my role. I am open to movies, too.
Are you willing to do kissing scenes?
I’m 35 and a mother of three. It’s awkward and not proper for me to do sexy scenes anymore. Let’s leave that to the younger actresses. I did that in the past but I won’t do it again. Besides, I’m sure my kids won’t allow me.
What was your daughters’ reaction to your decision to go back to acting?
They are excited for me. They say they pray for me every day so that I will get tons of offers. I’m doing all this for them anyway. I live for my children.
If your life story were to be made into a movie, what would the title be?
“I Loved You, Goodbye.” Past tense na ha (laughs). I just realized I did everything for the man I loved for the past 13 years. I fought, lied and cried just to protect the love of my life pero sabi nga nila kung mahal mo ang tao set him free. I’m doing what I think is best. After all, if you feel na di na masaya o kontento ang tao sa ’yo, bakit kailangan ipilit (if a person is no longer happy or content with you, why should you force yourself on him)?

The annual Goldilocks Cake Deco Expo gets better and better. I find myself wondering how they can top the previous event. When I asked their marketing director, Pinky Yee, and my dear Santa friend Alan German what was in store for cake lovers like me this year, their eyes lit up. Apparently, the 4th Cake Expo will allow imaginations to fly and push the envelope on “edutainment.” Incredible activities, interactive demos and all things cake-related will be unveiled on Feb. 24, at SMX Convention Center, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. See you there!
