MANILA, Philippines – Comedienne Elvie Villasanta, best known for her reality shows “Mommy Elvie’s Problematic Show” and “Mommy Elvie @ 18, passed away on Friday after a yearlong battle with breast cancer. She was 84.
Her remains will lie at the Christ the King Church in Green Meadows, Quezon City from February 10 to 13, her son, actor Ariel Villasanta, announced in a television interview on Saturday.
Reports said Mommy Elvie had been confined at the St. Luke’s Medical Center for over three weeks before she died. “Her cancer spread rapidly all over her body shortly after she was operated on,” Ariel shared. “We don’t always say ‘I love you’ to each other but we’re very close. I will miss her. She was so funny. When we’re at home, we never stop laughing.”
Mommy Elvie was last seen in the reality show “Mommy Elvie@18” which aired on GMA News TV in 2012. In an earlier interview with Inquirer Entertainment, Ariel said he planned to produce “Mommy Elvie the Movie.” He added: “I wouldn’t know what to do if I lost my mom. Only thing I know for sure is that it would be very painful.”
Mommy Elvie also appeared with Ariel in the comedy show “The Misadventures of Maverick and Ariel,” on TV5 in 2006. Shortly after, she starred in “Mommy Elvie’s Problematic Show,” which aired for 14 months, also on TV5.
