Vilma stars in her first indie

SANTOS. Topbills Jeffrey Jeturian’s Cinemalaya entry, “Extra.”

Zeny Opena, office employee: “I look forward to watching Vilma Santos’ Cinemalaya entry, ‘Extra.’ It’s a good thing that Jeffrey Jeturian is helming it to guarantee its quality. If her archrival, Nora Aunor, also had an entry, that would generate more excitement for the indie fest.”

Other notes:

Armi Torre, businesswoman: “I’m glad that GMA News TV is showing Filipino film classics in the afternoon. They bring back fond memories for older viewers and inform the younger generation about the golden era of local cinema. When I was a student many years ago, it was my daily habit to watch old films after school. Keep it up!”

Nida Reyes, televiewer: “I feel sad about Maricel Soriano’s career these days. After a big to-do about headlining a teleserye for Channel 2, she was unceremoniously dropped because of a problem with Gerald Anderson. The series would’ve put Maricel back in the limelight again. Let’s hope other networks come to her rescue.”

Lito Serrano, student: “Election fever is heating up. Even ‘Maala-ala Mo Kaya’ is featuring candidates’ life stories! This is a wise move for candidates to improve their chances of winning at the polls.

“Last week, it was Grace Poe’s turn on ‘MKK,’ which quite expectedly dealt with her being an adopted child, among other clarificatory matters. My only beef about features like this is that they favor ‘moneyed’ candidates.”
