THE INTERVIEWS
What’s the mushiest thing you did for love?
Kuh Ledesma: I can’t remember any. But … I once did a Valentine show at the PICC Ballroom, where I broke up with my boyfriend! My friends, who watched the show, asked, “Valentine’s Day, galit ka?”
Sitti Navarro: I threw a surprise birthday party for my ex-boyfriend.
Hansen Nichols: Back in the United States, there was a girl I liked very much, but she lived very far from were I lived. I had just got my driver’s license then, and I would drive all the way to her home just to be with her.
Pooh: I used to work in Cubao. After my shift, in the wee hours, I would ride the bus straight to Alabang, to spend the night at his place.
Duncan Ramos: We once had this concert at Araneta Coliseum with South Border. We weren’t supposed to bring our girlfriends onstage, but I did. I took her up and gave her flowers. I thought it was cheesy!
K-La Rivera: I’ve never had a real boyfriend!
What’s your most memorable Valentine date?
Kuh: I have to say the one I mentioned earlier. My love life at the time was problematic. I was very affected.
Sitti: Tagaytay is always so romantic. I remember a beautiful dinner and good wine.
Hansen: The first time is always memorable. Mine is a school dance, ant it was the girl who asked me out.
Pooh: When I was in Grade 5, I wrote a Valentine card for my crush and gave it to him. He threw it back at me.
Duncan: My first date, in elementary school. We had some cake and kissed each other on the cheeks!
K-La: I’m getting to know someone at the moment. This year should be memorable. I’ve always spent Valentine’s Day with my family.
What’s your favorite love song?
Kuh: “Till I Met You” because you can sing it to somebody you love, or to the Lord. It’s such a well-written song.
Sitti: “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. It’s a beautiful, beautiful love song. I have no one to dedicate it to right now, but I just love the song’s message. It’s so dreamy. It’s my love song— for no one!
Hansen: “Kailangan Kita” because the moment you start singing it, people go “Awww!” I once sang the song for a girl onstage, and she shook the whole time!
Pooh: “The Way You Look Tonight”—because I love the message. It was written for a woman, but a gay guy could tweak the lyrics.
Duncan: “For You” by Kenny Lattimore. It’s the ultimate wedding song. I’m saving it for my future wife.
K-La: “The Colour of My Love” by Celine Dion. It has very beautiful lyrics. I can imagine using this for my wedding… someday.
What’s the best way to deal with a breakup?
Kuh: Just keep busy. Noon, ’pag wala akong love life, it’s like I’m climbing walls—’di talaga ako makakanta. Now I have inner joy; I don’t need that anymore. No one can break my heart ever again.
Sitti: There’s no perfect way. You just plow through it! Time will heal you.
Hansen: I surround myself with people and explore new things to divert my attention from the heartache.
Pooh: I drink!
K-La: I hope I never have to. I’ll probably just surround myself with friends and focus on what I have.
Duncan: Keep busy and pray for healing. Breaking up sometimes feels like the world has ended.
Why should we watch your show?
Kuh: I’m doing the recorded songs of Jose Mari Chan for our duets. For my numbers with Kris, we’ll do R&B hits. We’re offering a mixture of old classic hits and some new ones as well.
Sitti: It’s been a long time since I had a Valentine show in Manila. Those who want to hear me sing their favorite love songs with a dash of bossa nova will enjoy this show.
Hansen: Everybody loves good music. We will sing songs that people like to hear. We’re having a post-Valentine show— to prolong the celebration of Love Month!
Pooh: I really prepared for this. Aside from love songs, I’m doing new Manny Pacquiao comedy skits. The audience can expect good music and lots of laughter.
K-La: We’ve prepared a fun evening, with lots of songs and laughter. I intend to remind everyone about kilig moments in their life.
Duncan: I’ll sing original songs based on my own experiences. Valentine’s Day is usually for couples, but even if you’re going on group dates with friends, we’ll serenade you, especially the ladies.
