Local rock bands Itchyworms, Rocksteddy, Kenyo and Callalily gave revelers at Area 05 in Quezon City a rocking good time during the press preview of the 15-leg concert tour Ginuman Fest 2013.
The second leg of the festival will be held in Davao on Feb. 1. The concert tour kicked off in Tarlac City last Jan. 19.
Rocksteddy opened the night, setting the tone by dishing out some of their most popular hits such as “Superhero” and “Leslie.”
“I always look forward to touring because we get to see and perform for fans in far-flung places,” vocalist Teddy Corpuz told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
For the frontman, it’s all about having pure, unadulterated fun onstage. “We don’t really care if we make mistakes or if we go out of tune,” said Teddy, who quite literally had a shocking experience in an out-of-town gig once.
“It was raining heavily, the stage and all the equipment were soaking wet. In the end we got electrocuted!” he recounted. “That one’s memorable to us.”
KENYO
Kean Cipriano was without his usual sunglasses when he stepped on stage, and raised the energy with his band Callalily’s “Stars,” “Magbalik” and a few tracks from their newest album “Flower Power.”
Special feeling
Being welcomed with flowers by their eager fans that waited for hours at the airport is always a special feeling, Kean told the Inquirer. “I can’t wait to see the crazy crowds … That and beautiful girls!”
CALLALILY
Kean added that the Ginuman Fest is the start of great things to come in the local rock scene this year. “There are many bands releasing new albums, as well as new bands coming out.”
Engaging the crowd with a rousing cover of Tropical Depression’s “Kapayapaan” was Kenyo’s frontman McCoy Fundales, who urged everyone to sing along to the classic Pinoy reggae hit.
After much coaxing from the audience, the Itchyworms obliged to perform “Beer,” which they wittily and aptly modified to “Gin” to suit the night’s choice of drink.

“If it isn’t quite obvious,” lead vocalist Jugs Jugueta said, laughing, “the thing I’m looking forward to in the tour is the food!”
“But no seriously, fans in the provinces don’t get to see us on a regular basis so they’re really hungry for music,” he added.

Organized by Ginebra San Miguel, Ginuman Fest, now on its second year, will move from Davao to: San Fernando, La Union (Feb. 16); San Pedro, Laguna (Feb. 23); Cebu (March 1); Antipolo (March 9); Pampanga (March 16); Tuguegarao, Cagayan (March 22); Kalibo, Aklan (April 12); Dasmariñas, Cavite (April 19); Lipa, Batangas (April 26); Solano, Nueva Vizcaya (May 17); Lucena, Quezon (May 24); Naga, Camarines Sur (May 31); and Metro Manila (June 8).
Also joining the Manila leg of the music fest are brand ambassadors Jhong Hilario, Georgina Wilson, Maja Salvador, Solenn Heussaff and Anne Curtis.
